Riley went to the doctor’s office today.

Today, I took Riley to her one month check up. Riley now weighs a whopping 10lbs 10oz. That puts her in the 90th percentile for her weight (compared to the 25th percentile from a couple days after she was born). Needless to say, she has packed on some weight. The doctor said that it’s typical for breastfed babies to put on a lot of weight at first and then it tapers off. She is also 20.5 inches long, which puts her in the 25th percentile. Yes, she is short and chubby.

Riley also got her second hep B vaccine. She didn’t like that at all. One more and she will be able to have unprotected sex and IV drug abuse without fear of Hepatitis B. I’m not sure why they give this vaccine so young. What are the chances that a newborn is going to contract a blood-borne disease? Anyways, the doctor said she seems be doing very well developmentally. She liked that she had her head turned towards me during the whole exam and also like the way she was moving her hands around.

Riley should be having her first real smile any day now! She has had several close calls, but not to where we could call it official just yet. We are also working on getting Riley to learn the difference between day/night. Right now, she is reversed. She was merciful and slept from 5am-9:30am this morning. That was probably the longest stretch I’ve slept in a long time. Woohoo!! Except I was up with her the entire night before that. It was my fault for not trying to go to bed till 1am , which is right when she woke up. Then I got to hang out with “Daddy’s little fusser” until she decided to go to sleep. Fun stuff!
