I can’t even think of a title for this

I heard about SecondLife about half a year ago… Never thought it affected people like this.

A good friend I know used to own land in this game.  Yes, own land.  It’s apparently just like real life.  You can buy sell stuff.  Clothes and housing… Some of the major auto manufacturers showcase their models here which you can purchase and drive around.  You can buy your home, even your avatar if you are so inclined… all for a fee.  You can gamble in a built to scale Las Vegas.  Yes, real money.  Anshe Chung has apparently become the first millionaire in Second Life.

oh.. btw, that’s millionaire in real U.S. dollars. Her real-world persona, Ailin Graef, figures her net worth based on her substantial in-world land holdings, cash in “Linden dollars,” which can be converted to real cash, as well as virtual shopping malls, store chains, and even virtual stock-market investments in Second Life businesses.

Wanna go to college?  A real college?  Dallas area colleges use Second Life to create virtual campuses.  If you’re a North Texas college student, you might also do class projects or homework assignments there.  Second Life, an online virtual world, began in 2003 as a place to meet others and socialize. But an increasing number of colleges and universities are embracing it as a tool to reach students raised on computers and video games.  Learn how it really works click here

People can be who ever they want to in this game and as you can see, it can be devastating for those who become addicted like the ones in the video.  It’s just like the Matrix… they’re plugged in and that’s the real world to them…not this world.
